Miso-Glazed Black Cod

Posted by Sheri on Monday, April 2nd, 2012 · Comments (0)

If Siren SeaSA delivered black cod to us each and every week, I would not be disappointed. It’s wonderful – buttery, mild, so delicious. We were tempted to repeat the same recipe as last time, but instead went with this miso-marinated version instead. It’s similar in that it’s got Asian flavorings, but it’s a simpler [...]

Bing (Chinese Scallion Flatbread Done on the Stovetop) – and another cookbook giveaway!

Posted by Sheri on Sunday, April 1st, 2012

My second batch of lean pizza dough from Artisan Pizza and Flatbread in Five Minutes a Day was just as simple as the first, which lasted two weeks. It’s been great to have on hand for a quick lunch or dinner. I tend to just want mine with tomato sauce and mozzarella (and basil if [...]

Salt & Pepper Rosemary Peasant Boule

Posted by Sheri on Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

I’m squeaking in at the last minute with this month’s Bake Together again. I keep finding myself wanting to commit to more baking groups, more testing, more projects in the kitchen… but there’s only so much time and so much eating I can do. This simple boule was perfect for me to whip together at [...]

Flour’s Famous Banana Bread

Posted by Sheri on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

I was stuck with a few very ripe bananas, so banana bread popped into my head. I haven’t ever really had great banana bread. Dorie Greenspan’s banana cake is much, much better than any banana bread if you ask me. But still, with a title like this one, I couldn’t help but make Flour’s version [...]

Sticky Sticky Buns

Posted by Sheri on Friday, November 25th, 2011

I bookmarked the recipe for these decadent buns the from the moment I got Flour. I always put it off – brioche takes time, and there are multiple parts, and it just seemed like a lot of work and pre-planning. I thought maybe Thanksgiving weekend would be a good time to try them, but was [...]

Pumpkin Quick Bread

Posted by Sheri on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

There isn’t anything particularly special about this bread, especially compared to the awesome pumpkin cheddar muffins from last weekend. This is just a plain jane quick bread, with oil and buttermilk instead of butter so it’s relatively moist. Larry ate it warmed with apple butter and it wasn’t bad. One thing I like about quick [...]

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Loaf

Posted by Sheri on Monday, May 23rd, 2011

I took advantage of cold, wet weather and made up a batch of this pumpkin bread from Baked. I love recipes that involve little more than a bowl and a whisk. This was so easy to make, and despite my loathing of all that is pumpkin, it made the house smell great. The recipe makes [...]

Garlic Bread with Hickory-Smoked Avocado

Posted by Sheri on Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Often when we travel we’ll zero in on one thing that we love to eat during a trip. Sometimes I’ll incorporate it into my home cooking, sometimes I don’t. By far the one thing we ate on our travels that we make most at home is garlic bread with smashed avocado on top. We had [...]

Double-Chocolate Loaf with Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Spread

Posted by Sheri on Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Another great recipe from Baked Explorations. This is a cross between a quick bread and a loaf cake. It’s very chocolate-y, and if you like peanut butter, the creamy peanut butter spread is a good foil. I had issues with my loaf sinking in the middle, and it was somewhat delicate and fell apart if [...]

Banana Nibby Bread

Posted by Sheri on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

A bunch of Amano cocoa nibs and some very ripe bananas. What to make? I thought I’d try another banana bread recipe. Eh, should have made banana cake instead. This bread is okay. Not very sweet at all, and Larry’s not crazy about the cocoa nibs. Banana Nibby Bread (Scharffen Berger)
