Salty Honey Pie

Posted by Sheri on Thursday, August 4th, 2011

I first had this pie during a trip to NYC. I ventured out to Brooklyn with food on my mind – a trip to Baked and to Four and Twenty Blackbirds. I’ve blabbed plenty about my love for Baked. But my desire to go to a pie shop is a little odd because I don’t really love pie. It’s not something I’d usually go out of my way to eat. But I’d heard so much about this adorable little shop, I just had to check it out.

There was a couple there that had ordered a slice of each pie (the menu varies by day). I wish I could have done that. I had a hard time deciding (salted caramel apple was drawing me in) but eventually decided on the salty honey pie. And then I ate the entire slice. It’s just the type of pie I like. Single-crust, simple, creamy-ish filling. I love that this pie really highlights the honey flavor, so it could change depending on what you use. I used a Tupelo honey and it was good, but very sweet. Next time, I might use avocado honey – it’s a little deeper flavored and less sweet. But I still loved the pie. My only complaint is their crust – it turned out a little tough, so next time I’ll return to my favorite Baked dough.
